Betting big while knowing nothing is bothersome. To resolve this contradiction, I invoke Hayek’s distinction between sculptor and gardener. (3rd essay of series on greyness & contradictions)
Hi Anand, been following your writings for past few months now... This one was lovely, especially in terms of timing. Look forward to many more such amazing pieces thala... :)
Great read. I initially was drawn in thinking this is gyan from the other more famous Hayek that we see in movies. That said, the gardening analogy of avoiding ruinous hail storms and locust attacks and broadly focussed on "cant lose the plant - may be it will only from grow here" is a good analogy. Whether it turns out to be a linear bougainvilla or a non-linear bamboo shoot or a random juicy banganapalli mango is hindsight wisdom.
seri. etho sculpted there. gardener here. To impart munger-ish wisdom to ordinary dogs, the trick is to use Pavlovian trick is to get the dog to salivate and draw him in.

Superbly written and timely advise in these times when we are all running around thinking numbers rather than thinking quality.

Thanks for introducing us to a different perspective to investing!
Thanks Anand for a great one, I enjoyed the reading the gardeners and craftsman's approach. Keep it coming!
